It overview what is new in SQL Server 2016 and the differences between the various editions of SQL Server 2016. We finish the module with a discussion of how SQL Server 2016 and Windows Server 2016 Better Together and a discussion of the Windows Server 2016 enhancements and how they are used by SQL Server 2016.
This module starts with a definition of In-Memory OLTP and a We then discuss hot to enable discussion of why in-Memory Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) is important and the In-Memory Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), features of SQL Server 2016. We then go on to discuss Real-time Operational Analytics which targets the Hybrid Transactional and Analytical Processing (HTAP) scenario such as an ERP application where you can run both the operational workload and analytics workload concurrently.
This module discusses In-Memory Data Warehousing with Clustered Columnstore Index. With this In-Memory updateable DW Storage Model Data is Stored Column-wise in row groups and is Effective in scenarios where indexed columns have several repeated values.

This module introduces the SQL Server 2016 Query Store & Live Query Statistics starting with a description the key usage scenarios and benefits for Query Store and a description of how it works. We then describe how the new Query Store comes UI can help a broad set of users immediately benefit from collected performance data to trouble shoot and optimize query performance. We then go on to discuss Live Query Statistics (LQS). LQS obtains a list of active queries and associated statistics from the following Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) and graphically renders this information in the SSMS activity monitor and also allows you to view the live execution plan in SSMS.
This module introduces the SQL Server 2016 Temporal Tables. Temporal Tables allow you to track and analyze changes over time. A temporal table is a new type of table that provides correct information about stored facts at any point in time. Each temporal table consists of two tables actually, one for the current data and one for the historical data. The system automatically ensures that when the data changes in the table with the current data, the previous values are stored in the historical table.
This Module introduces and discusses the concept of PolyBase. PolyBase unites the two powerful worlds of data—structured data and unstructured data. PolyBase makes this data available for businesses and thus provides a better world of analytics together. The goal of PolyBase is to make interacting with unstructured, semi-structured, and non-relational data stored in Hadoop as easy as writing Transact-SQL statements. PolyBase allows users to query non-relational data in Hadoop, blobs, files, and combine it anytime, anywhere with their existing relational data in SQL Server.
This Module introduces and discusses the concept of SQL Server 2016―Stretch Database, Stretch Database lets you archive your historical data transparently and securely. In SQL Server 2016, Stretch Database stores your historical data in the Microsoft Azure cloud. After you enable Stretch Database, it silently migrates your historical data to an Azure SQL Database. The module goes on to discuss various issues relative to Stretch database including Security, Backup and Restore.
